The Liposuction Process
This is how liposuction works at Milano Clinic, from your first enquiry to aftercare at home:
- Free online consultation: You send us photos of the areas you want treated by WhatsApp or through the form. The medical team assesses them, and you receive a fixed price in writing with no prepayment.
- Arrival and transfer: We pick you up at the airport in Istanbul and take you to your hotel and the hospital. An English-speaking interpreter stays with you.
- Pre-operative checks: Blood tests, a consultation with the doctor and marking of the areas. Your wishes and a realistic result are discussed at this stage.
- Operation: The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2–3 hours, depending on the number of areas. The incisions are only a few millimetres long.
- Hospital stay: You stay one night in hospital and are back on your feet the day after surgery.
- Recovery at the hotel: We recommend 5–6 nights in Istanbul in total. You can shower from the third day.

Liposuction Techniques

Traditional Tumescent Liposuction

What Liposuction Can and Cannot Do
- Lasting results: Removed fat cells do not grow back. With significant weight gain the remaining fat cells can still expand, so a stable weight matters.

- Loose skin: With a clear skin excess, for example after pregnancy or major weight loss, a tummy tuck or a combination of both is often the better solution.
- Cellulite: Liposuction is not a cellulite treatment. The skin may look smoother, but dimples do not reliably disappear.

Liposuction Recovery: Timeline
Recovery depends on the number of areas treated. This timeline shows the typical course:
- Day of surgery and first night: You stay one night in hospital. Mild pain and a feeling of tightness are normal and are well managed with pain relief.
- From day 1: Getting up and taking short walks; movement supports healing.
- From day 3: Your first shower is allowed.
- First week: Take it easy, avoid heavy lifting and drink plenty of water. Lymphatic drainage helps to reduce swelling.
- After 1–2 weeks: Most patients can return to light office work and everyday activities.
- 6 weeks: The compression garment is worn for this long. Sport is resumed gradually, once your doctor approves.
- 1–3 months: Swelling subsides and the result becomes visible.
Flying home: We recommend 5–6 nights in Istanbul in total. Wear your compression garment on the flight, drink enough water and move around regularly.
Tips for good healing: a protein-rich diet, plenty of water, no nicotine or alcohol in the first weeks, and following your surgeon’s instructions closely.
Ideal Candidates for Liposuction
Liposuction is especially suitable for people who:
- are at least 18 years old and in good general health,
- are close to their target weight and keep it stable,
- have local fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise,

We recommend 5–6 nights in Istanbul in total, including one night in hospital. After that you can fly home wearing your compression garment, and aftercare continues on WhatsApp.
The compression garment is worn for 6 weeks. It helps to reduce swelling and supports your new body contour.
Removed fat cells do not come back. With significant weight gain the remaining fat cells can expand, though. With a stable weight, exercise and a balanced diet the result lasts in the long term.
Only to a limited extent. Liposuction reduces fat volume but is not a cellulite treatment. The skin may look smoother, but dimples do not reliably disappear.
