1Safety and choosing a clinic

Is plastic surgery in Turkey safe?

It can be, if you choose carefully. Istanbul has many experienced surgeons and modern private hospitals, but quality varies a lot. Choose a provider that is licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health, has your operation done by a specialist plastic surgeon in a fully equipped hospital, gives you a written plan and price before you travel, and stays reachable for aftercare once you are home. Be cautious with offers that look far cheaper than the market.

How can I check that a clinic in Turkey is licensed?

Facilitators and clinics that treat international patients need an International Health Tourism Authorization from the Turkish Ministry of Health. You can ask for the certificate number and check it in the Ministry's public health-tourism registry. Milano Clinic's number is AK-0341; our travel agency licence (Ministry of Culture and Tourism) is No. 13562.

Is Milano Clinic a clinic or an agency?

Both roles are covered and we say so openly: Milano Clinic is a Ministry of Health–authorized international health tourism provider (AK-0341) and licensed travel agency (13562), based in Şişli, Istanbul, since 2017. We plan and organise your whole treatment; the operation itself is performed by a specialist plastic surgeon in a JCI-accredited partner hospital.

Who performs my operation?

A specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Before the operation you meet your surgeon in person in Istanbul for the examination, the final plan and the written consent. The surgeon – not a salesperson – decides what is medically safe for you.

What happens if there is a complication?

While you are in Istanbul, your surgeon checks you regularly and treats any problem immediately. Complication insurance is included in our prices. After you fly home, your personal consultant stays in contact via WhatsApp and forwards photos and questions to the surgical team. If you notice fever, increasing pain or swelling, or shortness of breath, contact us and a local doctor at once.

2Costs

How much does plastic surgery cost in Turkey in 2026?

At Milano Clinic: tummy tuck with 360° liposuction from €3,200, breast lift from €2,350, breast augmentation from €2,900, rhinoplasty from €2,250, BBL with 360° liposuction from €2,750, and the mommy makeover package (tummy tuck + 360° lipo + breast lift) for a fixed €4,300. The final price is confirmed in writing after a free online consultation.

Why is surgery in Turkey cheaper than in the UK or Germany?

Mainly because of lower operating costs: staff salaries, hospital and rent costs, and the exchange rate. High patient volume also keeps teams experienced. A lower price should never mean lower standards – compare what is included, who operates and where.

What is included in the price? Are there hidden costs?

Included: the operation by a specialist plastic surgeon, anaesthesia, hospital stay, pre-operative tests, VIP transfers airport – hospital – hotel, compression garment, complication insurance and aftercare via WhatsApp. Not included: hotel and flights. Everything is listed in your written quote, so there are no surprises.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

No. There is no deposit – you pay on the day of surgery, after you have met your surgeon in Istanbul.

3Trip and recovery

Your days in Istanbul – an example

  1. Day 1Arrival, VIP transfer, tests and in-person consultation with your surgeon
  2. Day 2Operation and hospital stay
  3. Days 3–6Rest at the hotel, check-ups, compression garment
  4. Day 7–10Final check – your surgeon clears you to fly

The exact plan depends on your procedure and is set by your surgeon.

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul?

Plan about 7–10 days for a tummy tuck, mommy makeover, BBL or facial surgery, and about 5–7 days for breast surgery or liposuction – in line with NHS and American Society of Plastic Surgeons guidance. You arrive, have your tests and an in-person consultation with your surgeon before the operation, then check-ups until your surgeon clears you to fly.

When can I fly home after surgery?

Only after your surgeon's final check. As a guide, the NHS and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons advise not flying for about 5–7 days after breast surgery or liposuction and 7–10 days after a tummy tuck or facial surgery; the US CDC suggests about 10 days after abdominal surgery. To lower the risk of blood clots, wear your compression garment, walk in the aisle, drink plenty of water and take any medication your surgeon prescribes.

Can I combine several procedures in one operation?

Often yes – the most popular combination is the mommy makeover (tummy tuck + 360° liposuction + breast lift) in one operation. Your surgeon decides whether a combination is safe for you, based on your health and the total operating time.

Can I travel alone, or should I bring a companion?

Many patients travel alone; our team handles all transfers and stays in touch. For larger body procedures we recommend bringing a companion for the first days in the hotel. Hotel costs are not included in the price.

How should I prepare for surgery abroad?

Keep a stable weight for at least 6 months, stop smoking at least 4 weeks before surgery, and tell us about all medications – especially blood thinners, hormones and supplements. Plan enough time off work and do not book your return flight before the surgeon confirms the date. As the NHS recommends, talk to your own doctor before you commit, and note that standard travel insurance usually does not cover planned surgery.
