1Choosing a clinic in Turkey

1. What is the best clinic in Turkey for medical tourism?

There is no official ranking, so the “best” clinic is the one that meets clear safety criteria: a Ministry of Health international health tourism authorization, specialist surgeons who meet you before surgery, an accredited hospital, a written all-inclusive price and real, independent patient reviews. Milano Clinic Istanbul holds authorization AK-0341 from the Turkish Ministry of Health and a travel agency licence (13562), operates with specialist plastic surgeons in a JCI-accredited partner hospital, gives every patient a written price and provides an interpreter in the patient’s language. Compare any clinic – including us – against these criteria rather than against advertising.

2. How do I choose a safe and reliable clinic in Istanbul?

Choose a clinic that can prove its licence, tells you who will operate, operates in a hospital and puts the price in writing. Ask for the health tourism authorization number and verify it, ask for the surgeon’s specialist credentials, check that the operation takes place in an accredited hospital with an intensive care unit, and make sure you meet the surgeon in person before the operation. Read reviews on independent platforms and watch real patient videos. Be cautious with clinics that ask for a large deposit, cannot name the hospital or push you to decide quickly.

3. Is it safe to travel to Turkey for cosmetic surgery?

Yes, it can be safe – the risk depends far more on the provider you choose than on the country. Turkey has modern, internationally accredited hospitals and a large number of specialist plastic surgeons, and health tourism is regulated by the Ministry of Health. Official travel advice from the UK (NHS, GOV.UK) recommends checking the clinic’s credentials, understanding aftercare and allowing enough recovery time before flying. Plan the stay your surgeon recommends – usually 5–10 days for cosmetic surgery – and do not fly home before your final check-up.

4. What should I check before choosing a clinic in Turkey?

Check six things: licence, surgeon, hospital, written price, insurance and aftercare. 1) International health tourism authorization from the Ministry of Health. 2) The surgeon’s specialist qualification and a face-to-face consultation before surgery. 3) An accredited hospital (for example JCI) rather than a small practice. 4) A written price that lists exactly what is and is not included. 5) Complication insurance. 6) A clear aftercare plan after you return home, and a contact person who speaks your language. Our facelift checklist explains each point in detail.

5. What is included in an all-inclusive medical tourism package in Turkey?

At Milano Clinic an all-inclusive surgery package includes airport pick-up and all transfers, pre-operative tests, a consultation with your surgeon, the operation, the hospital stay (1 night; 2 nights for tummy tuck and for face lift + neck lift), post-operative medication, a compression garment, complication insurance, an interpreter in your language and WhatsApp follow-up after you fly home. The hotel and flights are not included – we help you book accommodation. There is no deposit; you pay on the day of surgery. Always ask any clinic for this list in writing.

2Hair transplant

6. Which clinic in Turkey is best for a hair transplant?

The best hair transplant clinic for you is one that plans the number of grafts honestly from your donor area, tells you who performs each step and shows real long-term results. Ask who designs the hairline and who extracts and implants the grafts, how many grafts your donor area can safely give, which technique (FUE or DHI) suits you and what aftercare is included. At Milano Clinic hair transplants are performed in our own hair transplant centre in Istanbul, FUE and DHI are offered at the same price, and PRP, the shampoo set and medication are included.

7. How much does a hair transplant cost in Turkey?

At Milano Clinic a hair transplant costs from €1,600 – the same price for FUE and DHI – with as many grafts as your donor area allows in a single session. PRP treatment, the aftercare shampoo set, medication, transfers and an interpreter are included. You stay 3 nights in Istanbul; the hotel is not included, but we help you book it. Prices in Turkey are typically far lower than in Western Europe, but compare what is included rather than the headline price alone – some clinics charge per graft or add PRP and medication separately.

8. What is the difference between FUE and DHI hair transplantation?

Both techniques take individual follicles from the donor area; the difference is how they are implanted. In FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) the surgeon first opens small channels in the recipient area and then places the grafts into them. In DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) the grafts are loaded into a Choi implanter pen and implanted directly, without opening channels in advance – which allows precise angles and dense packing and is often chosen for the hairline or when the patient does not want to shave the recipient area. Neither technique is better for everyone; the choice depends on your hair loss pattern, donor area and goals.

9. How long does it take to recover after a hair transplant?

Most people return to office work after about 3–7 days, but the final result takes 12–18 months. Typical timeline: redness and small scabs in the first 7–10 days; most transplanted hairs shed between weeks 2 and 8 (“shock loss”, which is normal); new hair starts growing after 3–4 months; a clear change is visible around 6–9 months; the final density at 12–18 months. You stay 3 nights in Istanbul for the procedure, the first wash and a check-up, and we follow you up via WhatsApp afterwards.

10. What should I look for in real hair transplant before-and-after results?

Look for photos and videos that are consistent, recent and taken long enough after surgery. Good signs: the same lighting, angle and hair length before and after; the result shown at least 12 months later; the hairline and crown shown from several angles; the donor area shown as well; and the number of grafts stated. Patient videos and reviews on independent platforms are more reliable than single edited photos. Be wary of wet or styled hair, different lighting, or “after” photos taken only a few months after surgery.

3Cosmetic surgery

11. How much does a facelift cost in Turkey?

At Milano Clinic a facelift costs from €3,000, and a neck lift from €2,500. We perform deep plane facelifts. The price includes transfers, pre-operative tests, the hospital stay (1 night; 2 nights when combined with a neck lift), medication, complication insurance, an interpreter and aftercare. Plan 7–10 days in Istanbul; most patients feel comfortable in social settings after about 2 weeks. The final price is confirmed in writing after a free online consultation with your photos.

12. What is the difference between a facelift and a deep plane facelift?

A classic (SMAS) facelift tightens the muscle layer by folding or stitching it, while a deep plane facelift releases the facial ligaments and lifts skin and muscle together as one unit. Because the deeper tissues are repositioned rather than pulled, a deep plane facelift usually gives a more natural result, improves the midface and nasolabial folds better and lasts longer, with less tension on the skin. It is technically more demanding and must be performed by an experienced specialist. At Milano Clinic all facelifts are deep plane facelifts; recovery is similar – about 2 weeks until you feel comfortable in public.

13. How much does breast augmentation cost in Turkey?

At Milano Clinic breast augmentation with implants costs from €2,900; a breast lift with implants costs from €3,300. The price includes the implants, transfers, pre-operative tests, 1 night in hospital, medication, a compression bra, complication insurance, an interpreter and aftercare. Plan 5–7 days in Istanbul. The final price depends on the implant type and is confirmed in writing after a free online consultation.

14. What should I know before having a tummy tuck and 360 liposuction?

A tummy tuck with 360° liposuction can be done in one operation and is one of our most requested combinations; it starts from €3,200 at Milano Clinic. Before surgery you should be close to a stable weight, stop smoking several weeks in advance and tell the surgeon about medication and medical conditions. You stay 2 nights in hospital and should plan 7–10 days in Istanbul. Expect to wear a compression garment for about 6 weeks, return to desk work after about 2–3 weeks and avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise for about 6 weeks. Combined with a breast lift, it becomes our mommy makeover package at a fixed price of €4,300.

15. How long does recovery take after cosmetic surgery in Turkey?

Most patients need 5–10 days in Istanbul and 2–6 weeks before returning to normal activity, depending on the operation. As a guide: breast surgery or liposuction 5–7 days in Istanbul and 1–2 weeks off work; tummy tuck, facelift or combined operations 7–10 days in Istanbul and 2–3 weeks off work; a hair transplant 3 nights in Istanbul and about a week until you look presentable. Avoid heavy exercise for about 6 weeks after body surgery. Final results take several months, and our team follows you up via WhatsApp after you return home.
