1What to check

What makes a good rhinoplasty surgeon?

A good surgeon listens to what you want, tells you honestly what is possible for your nose and shows long-term results. Rhinoplasty is one of the most demanding facial operations, so experience matters more than price.

Which specialist title should the surgeon have?

In Turkey rhinoplasty is performed by specialists in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and by ear, nose and throat specialists. Ask for the surgeon’s name and specialist title before you book.

What should I ask about experience?

Ask how many rhinoplasties the surgeon performs each year, how many are revisions, and to see results of noses similar to yours. A clear answer is a good sign.

How do I judge before and after photos?

Look for the same light and angles, including the profile, and results at least 12 months after surgery. Be careful with heavily edited photos and with computer simulations, which show a goal, not a guarantee.

How do I compare prices?

Compare what is included, not just the number. Check whether the hospital stay, anaesthesia, tests, transfers, an interpreter and aftercare are in the price, and what a revision would cost.

2Red flags

Which warning signs should stop me?

Be careful if a clinic promises a result before an examination, cannot tell you who will operate, operates outside a hospital or pressures you to pay quickly. Unclear aftercare after you fly home is also a warning sign.

Is the cheapest offer a good idea?

Not necessarily. A price far below others may leave out the hospital, the anaesthetist or aftercare, and fixing a poor rhinoplasty is harder and more expensive than the first operation.

3Questions before you book

What should I ask before booking?

Ask who will operate, whether the operation is open or closed and why, how long you need to stay, what happens if there is a problem after you return home and how follow-up works. Ask for the answers in writing.
